On 3 November 2019, the Japanese government announced that Ines Sanmiguel Camargo from Colombia, former professor at Teikyo University in Tokyo, was awarded by the Emperor of Japan with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. This award was in recognition of her contribution to academic research on the Japanese immigration history and promoting the academic exchange between Japan and Colombia, and mutual understanding.
The order was bestowed on 21 January by Ambassador Morishita at the Japanese Embassy in Bogota.
Ines received her PhD from the University of Durham in Durham and her BA in Anthropology from the University of Los Andes in Bogota.
